Haiku Seed Journal – Issue #0

A brief history:

I ran Haiku Seed Journal (online) in 2022-23. Throughout 2022, poets on Twitter submitted their haiku for the weekly prompts shared on the journal’s Twitter handle @haikuseed_ (now deleted for obvious reasons). I picked a few of the best submissions each week, featured them on the journal’s website and shared my commentary on 1-2 selections each week.

I curated a selection of haiku from all of the selected haiku over the year and designed the inaugural issue (PDF) of the journal, using my digital art in the issue’s design and published it in January 2023.

The journal has been on an indefinite hiatus since then. I couldn’t find the energy to run the journal, then I couldn’t find time. Then I couldn’t find time or energy to even be active in the haiku scene, writing haiku rarely.

I want to change that. I want to write more haikai poetry in 2026. I might bring back Haiku Seed Journal in 2026 because analytically and critically thinking about haiku was a great learning experience, I made new acquaintances in the haiku world. I don’t want to lose all that. So, I will actively try to see if I can bring the journal back up in a capacity that does not overwhelm me. I might approach the whole submissions/selections and issue curation differently. It might be more of a collaborative journal than a submission/selection-based journal. Let’s see.
